From grant to savings — without the hassle
A free budget that stays free. See where your money goes, split rent and groceries with your housemates, and stay in control before Klarna surprises you again. Made for a student budget — so you don't accidentally slip into the red or into debt.
- Always free plan
- No credit card at signup
- No ads in the app
- Works on any phone
Four moments every student knows
Everyone gets this sometimes. Not because you're bad with money — but because most apps were never built for this.
"Where did my grant go?"
Halfway through the month there's €87 left in your account and you think: what? At the start of the month it was all there — but where it went in between? No idea.
Housemates who don't pay up
You do the groceries for four people. Or you front the internet bill. Or the deposit is still with someone who moved out ages ago. Ten WhatsApps later it's still not sorted.
Klarna surprises
"Pay later" doesn't feel like spending money. Until three weeks later an email arrives and you see a total you'd never have let run up if you'd seen it coming.
Uncertainty at the end of the month
3 weeks until your next student finance. Can you still go out this weekend? Is there enough for the tuition direct debit? You open the bank app, take a sip, close it again.
Grip on money without turning it into a second study
No overloaded app with a hundred buttons. Just one simple overview that fits how students actually live.
Free forever
The base plan is free and stays free. 50 transactions per month, 2 receipt uploads per month and the monthly overviews — enough for most students. No credit card needed to start, and you don't switch to paid automatically.
Never stress about fees
Housemate mode
Upgrade once to Premium (split it, €1.50/mo) and share one ledger with up to 3 housemates. Who paid what? One glance. Settle: yourselves or via Tikkie.
No more arguments about groceries
Grocery receipt scan
Photo of the supermarket receipt → total and date automatically in the ledger. 3 seconds per receipt, so even after 3 beers you can keep admin up.
No receipt-forgetting syndrome
Smart budget alerts
Set a monthly budget (e.g. €180 groceries) and Okidoky warns when you're at 80%. No Klarna surprise afterward, just a gentle reminder beforehand.
Spend more consciously
What a first-year university student looks like
Realistic example of a first-year student living away from home with a side job. Numbers are estimated Dutch student finance rates for academic year 2025/2026 — your situation likely differs, but this gives an idea.
Example
First-year student, living out
Own room, 1 child of single parent (supplementary grant), works 8h/week in hospitality.
Monthly income
- Basic grant (living out)+€450
- Side job (8h hospitality)+€400
- Supplementary grant+€120
Monthly expenses
- Room rent (incl. utilities)−€500
- Groceries−€180
- Transport outside student card−€90
- Health insurance (+subsidy)−€150
- Study books/materials−€40
- Going out & subscriptions−€80
- Savings (for unexpected)−€30
Left over
-€100
Small, but positive. With Okidoky you immediately see where you can shift things when something special comes up (new laptop, weekend trip).
DUO amounts change yearly. Always check duo.nl for current basic grant and supplementary grant for your situation. Exact side-job amount depends on employer and hours. Groceries, room rent and transport vary a lot by city.
Why students actually don't have to pay anything
We understand that €1.50 per month is sometimes still €1.50 you'd rather not spend. That's why the base plan is free forever — not as a lure to paid, just as the baseline.
- 50 transactions per month
- Receipt scanning (all recognition works)
- Monthly and yearly overviews
- Categories and budgets

Good to know
Free users see occasional small ads and can't share with others. If that's fine: for most individual students the free plan is more than enough.
5 concrete money-saving tips for students
No generic "buy less avocado toast" advice. Real tricks that work in the Netherlands.
- 1
Housing allowance check
Living out in a rented room or studio? Check if you qualify for housing allowance via toeslagen.nl. Many students miss hundreds of euros per year because they assume it's not for them.
- 2
Loyalty-card discounts
Scan the supermarket loyalty card even on small purchases. Over a year this often adds up to €50-€120 in bonuses and points — free money.
- 3
Student subscriptions
Spotify, YouTube Premium, Adobe — all ~50% cheaper with student verification. Same for Apple Music and Prime. Verify via your education provider.
- 4
Tuition in instalments
Pay tuition in monthly instalments instead of one go. No extra cost, but much more cash flow. Arrange via your education provider.
- 5
€200 buffer fund
Set aside €25-€30 per month in an "oh shit" jar. After 8 months you'll have €200-€240. Washing machine broken? Dentist incident? No new debt needed.
Frequently asked by students
Is the base plan really free, or is there a catch?
Really free. No credit card at signup, no automatic upgrade, no time limit. You see occasional small, non-disruptive ads in the app. That's how we fund the free version. Don't like that? Upgrade to €1.50/month — but you don't have to.
How does housemate splitting work?
One person upgrades to Premium (€1.50/mo, cancel any time — or Lifetime €25 one-off). That person can invite 1 extra user. For 3 housemates Family Lifetime (€49.95 one-off, 2 extra accounts) works — cost divided by 3 comes to roughly €16.65 per person once.
Can I track grant, loan and side job separately?
Yes. Create different income categories: "Basic grant", "Supplementary grant", "Side job", "DUO loan". Each with its own recurrence (monthly). For DUO loans you can also have Okidoky track a debt overview so you see what's still outstanding.
Do I need to track transport outside my student card?
Only if you want to see how many rides you take outside your student transit. Category "Transport outside card" lets you track it. Useful for weekend trips or internships outside your transit region.
Does my data stay mine after graduation?
100%. Your data belongs to you, not to your student status. You can keep using Okidoky after graduation (useful now you have a job and more to manage), or at any time download everything as a file and delete your account.
Can my parent look into my account for a loan conversation?
Only if you choose to share the ledger (upgrade to Premium, invite them as "view only"). You can also just send them a file if you want to share it one time without permanent account access.
Ready to see where your money goes?
Create a free account in 30 seconds. No credit card, no spam, no commitments. If you don't like it, request deletion by email.
Your data stays yours. If you drop off, you can export everything or just leave it for later.
