Why Okidoky exists

Managing your finances shouldn't be complicated. We believe everyone should be able to track expenses, income and receipts in one simple place.

The problem

Lost receipts. No overview. Always a hassle.

Receipts disappear in your wallet, spreadsheets are boring, and most finance apps are too complex or not available in your language.

And if you want to share your finances with your partner? Good luck with that.

  • Receipts disappear

In your wallet, bag, or nowhere to be found

  • No insight

Where does your money actually go?

  • Can't manage together

Your partner has no access to your overview

  • Scan your receipts

OCR technology automatically reads the amount

  • Insight at a glance

The dashboard shows exactly where your money goes

  • Manage together

Invite your partner and manage your budget together

The solution

Everything in one place. Manage together. Finally, clarity.

Okidoky was born from our own frustration: why isn't there a simple way to track receipts, expenses and income — together with your partner?

Just scan, track and get insights. On your phone, tablet or computer. And if you want: together with your housemate or partner.

Our mission

Financial clarity for everyone

Personal finance should be accessible. Not just for tax specialists or spreadsheet wizards, but for anyone who wants a grip on their money.

Who we are

Built by people who needed it themselves

Rulido — a web agency specializing in web design, hosting and automation, based in the Netherlands. We build apps and websites that feel logical and do what they're supposed to do.

When we realized we couldn't find a decent household budget app that could be shared and scan receipts, we decided to build it ourselves.

The result: Okidoky — a digital household ledger that's simple, fast and accessible. No unnecessary features, no complicated settings. Just clarity.

A good system goes unnoticed. You only miss it when it's gone.

— Okidoky

Background

Why we built this

The personal reason behind it.

Okidoky does not exist because we saw a market gap. It exists because our founder married at 25 to someone who brought €120,000 of debt — half of which became legally his the moment they said yes. Back then Dutch marriage law still defaulted to full community of property; that only changed in 2018.

He spent eight years paying it off. At 33 he was debt-free. Those eight years taught him what no money app ever could: how fast things spiral, how long "back to normal" really takes, and how much calm a simple overview brings. One that does its job and otherwise leaves you alone.

That is why Okidoky is the way it is: a free plan that stays genuinely free, clear pricing, and you only hear from us when something needs your attention on your account. No emails pushing you to something pricier, no "only 2 spots left!", no promises of savings we cannot back up.

Just a household ledger that works.

Principles that come from this

  • We only show numbers that are true — from real users or public sources.
  • No credit card needed to start. You move to paid only if you choose to.
  • On the free plan your receipt is read on your own device, your data is stored in Europe, and you can always download it. Your data belongs to you.
  • We are not a bank, not an AI coach, not an accounting suite. Just a household ledger.

Honest positioning

What Okidoky is NOT

Good products know what they're not. Here are things we deliberately don't do — and what's a better alternative if you need that.

  • Not a bank

You don't deposit money with Okidoky. We have no account, no PIN, no IBAN. We only record what you tell us (manually or via CSV).

Looking to bank? See ING, ABN, bunq. Okidoky is the overview on top.

  • Not a full accounting package

We don't do invoices, automated VAT filing or payroll. Our product stays a ledger — deliberately narrow.

Looking for invoicing + VAT filing? A dedicated accounting tool is better for that.

  • Not an AI-driven coach

We don't give "AI tips" on how you should save. Forecasts use standard math, not LLMs. The only AI in Okidoky is the optional Premium receipt scan — it only reads your receipt, it doesn't advise anything.

Looking for AI advice? Apps exist that promise this, but your numbers typically go to a cloud AI.

  • No live bank integration

We have no PSD2 integration. You import transactions via CSV or enter manually. Deliberate choice — see /banken for the reasoning.

Looking for live bank feed? YNAB and Grip offer this — with trade-offs around privacy and third-party aggregators.

  • No free-forever fantasy

The base plan is free and stays free. But sharing with your partner, advanced forecasts and bank import are in Premium (€1.50/mo) or Lifetime (€25). Honest about cost.

Upgrade when you need features, not before. No auto-conversion, no credit card at start.
